Environmental Officer – Australian Meat Group
We are an Australian-owned meat processing plant based in Dandenong. We’re seeking a Skilled Environmental Officer who will play a key role in ensuring the meat processing facility complies with environmental regulations and adheres to sustainability practices. This position is responsible for managing waste, monitoring air and water quality, overseeing environmental safety protocols, and promoting environmental awareness within the factory. The Environmental Officer will work closely with operational teams, regulatory bodies, and management to ensure the company's environmental goals and legal obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental laws and industry best practices related to meat processing.
Coordinate inspections and audits with regulatory agencies to maintain environmental certifications and permits.
Waste Management:
Oversee waste disposal processes for solid, liquid, and hazardous materials.
Develop and implement effective waste reduction strategies.
Ensure proper segregation, storage, and disposal of waste, including animal by-products and packaging materials.
Water and Energy Management:
Monitor water usage within the plant and implement strategies for water conservation.
Work with plant operations to optimize energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
Maintain records of energy and water consumption for reporting purposes.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Develop and promote sustainability programs, including recycling and renewable energy use.
Investigate new technologies and processes that improve environmental performance.
Educate and engage staff in sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of all environmental activities, including waste management, water quality, and energy usage.
Prepare and submit environmental reports as required by regulatory bodies.
Analyze environmental data and trends to prepare recommendations for continual improvement
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge of environmental regulations, waste management control.
Strong understanding of sustainability practices and environmental impact reduction.
Experience with environmental auditing and reporting tools.
Familiarity with meat processing operations is a plus.
Passion for community education, behaviour change, and communication.
Knowledge of sustainability and waste management issues.
