About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to lead the delivery of accurate, compliant and efficient payroll services across a growing multi-entity organisation.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll operations while driving payroll transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the business through a period of organisational change, including payroll system optimisation, process standardisation and the consolidation of payroll functions across multiple entities.

This role will act as the subject matter expert for all payroll-related matters, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations while delivering a high level of service to employees and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing across multiple Australian entities and pay frequencies, including weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.

  • Ensure employees are paid accurately and on time in accordance with relevant legislation, modern awards, enterprise agreements and employment contracts.

  • Oversee payroll reporting, reconciliations and audit requirements.

  • Manage payroll-related statutory obligations including PAYG, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, Long Service Leave, Single Touch Payroll and year-end processes.

  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries and investigations.

Payroll Systems & Transformation
  • Lead payroll system implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support the organisation through payroll transformation projects, including payroll consolidation across multiple entities.

  • Review and improve payroll processes, controls and governance frameworks.

  • Develop and maintain payroll procedures, documentation and system training materials.

  • Work closely with Finance, People & Culture and operational leaders to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.

Remuneration & Benefits Administration
  • Manage payroll administration associated with novated leasing arrangements.

  • Administer employee share schemes and other remuneration-related programs.

  • Ensure accurate payroll treatment of salary sacrifice arrangements, allowances, incentives and other employee benefits.

  • Support the administration of company vehicle programs and associated fringe benefits requirements.

Compliance & Advisory
  • Maintain current knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation requirements and industrial instruments.

  • Monitor and implement legislative, award and compliance changes.

  • Support internal and external audits, payroll reviews and remediation activities.

  • Provide practical payroll advice and guidance to managers, employees and key stakeholders.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll within a medium to large multi-entity organisation.

  • Experience leading or supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades or major payroll transformation projects.

  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation requirements and industrial relations frameworks.

  • Experience interpreting and applying modern awards and enterprise agreements.

  • Experience managing payroll processes involving novated leasing, salary sacrifice arrangements and employee share schemes.

  • Advanced payroll systems experience, including system configuration, troubleshooting and reporting.

  • Strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Payroll, Human Resources, Business, Finance or a related discipline (preferred).
